European Union 

In the European union all countries unless specified follow directive 2002/24/EC, which exempts vehicles with the following definition form type approval. “Cyclists with pedal assistance which are equipped with an auxiliary electric motor having a maximum continuous rated power of 250w, of which the output is progressively reduced and finally cut off as the vehicle reaches a speed of 25kph (15.5mph) or the cyclists stops peddling.

Australia

In Australia, they follow a similar law to the EU. Electric Bikes if over the power output of 250watt are deemed to be a moped and classed in the LA moped category. This law is the same throughout all states.

New Zealand

In New Zealand if you have an electric bike that exceeds 300 watts then it is considered as a LA moped. For any electric bike that is less than 300watt it is classed as a bicycle.
